A Biome for Bernardo

(A WebQuest by Deanna Widner)

Introduction

Meet Bernardo.

Here is his planet, Zarbidian.

Do not be fooled by how small it looks:  it is full of creatures just like Bernardo.  In fact, Bernardo's race, the Zarbidianians, are the only living things besides plants that exist on Zarbidian.  Bernardo came to Earth in his spaceship.

It seems Zarbidian is very over-crowded and Bernardo is hoping to find a new home on Earth.  But the scientists who have studied this Zarbidianian are asking one question:  Where in the world will he live on our world?

Task

Naturally Bernardo cannot talk to the scientists in our language so Bernardo cannot tell them what his environment on Zarbidian was like.  He does not know in which biome he would like to live because, being new to our world, he doesn't know all there is to know about all the biomes.  The scientists are stumped:  how can they let Bernardo know where to live if they cannot speak his language?  Can you help them out?  Can you help Bernardo

Process

So, you ask, what exactly is involved in finding poor homeless Bernardo the best biome in which to live?  Here is all you have to do.  Follow the links to see individual requirements for each item.

1) Your teacher will assign to you a biome to research and give you a research worksheet to fill out.   You will find your biome in the list below and follow the link to websites on your biome.

2) Using your completed worksheet to guide you, you must design a travel brochure that will help Bernardo decide what biome would be best for him.

3) After all of your classmates have shared their brochure, you must take the Bernardo Quiz to find out which biome he has picked to live in.
